4th Mark Jon Bolderson Percussion Scholarship July 4th 2021, Hexham Masonic Hall

We are very pleased to launch our 4th annual Mark Jon Bolderson Percussion Scholarship application process. Applications can now be submitted via the below link and successful candidates will be invited to audition on Sunday 4th July 2021 at the Masonic Hall in Hexham. Muddy Run, August 2021

Hopefully this year we will be able to arrange our 3rd sponsored Muddy Run at Broomley Grange in Stocksfield. We will keep you posted on the date once arranged.

Drum Camp 9-13th August 2021, Hexham Masonic Hall

We are busy arranging a drum camp to commence the week of 9th August 2021. There will be opportunities for beginners and intermediates and we will keep you posted once arrangements are finalised.

Christmas Online Auction November 28th 2021 0900-2100

Following on from the huge success of last years Online Auction, we are making it an annual event. Lots are already coming in, so if you have anything you could donate be it your skills and talents, to gifts, experiences, decorations, hampers etc, please do get intouch.

Steve Gadd Q&A Sunday 21st March 2021 1500

Steve Gadd is the most sought after session Drummer in the World. He has played with Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin to name a few. He is very kindly donating an hour of his time to take your questions and to inspire you in your practice and performance.

Mark Jon Bolderson Percussion Scholarship  July 2021

Applications will open on June 1st 2021 for this years scholarship and auditions will be held in July. We will post the link to the application form in May 2021.

Drum Festival mk2 - February 15th-20th 2021

Join us for a series of workshops and documentaries, featuring sessions for beginners and intermediates online, in association with Northumberland County Council.

We will feature international stars from the world of drumming from Michael Spearman of Everything Everything, Andrew Lisle Jazz Drummer, Beginners Bodhran and Jambe, Owen Gunnell and the Corp Of Army Musicians.

Mark Jon Bolderson Percussion Scholarship 2020

Applications are now open for our 2020 Scholarship, closing date is June 30th 2020.

We will be monitoring Government guidlines in relation to Covid 19 and it may be that auditions are to be submitted by recording. The date of the auditions will be on July 13th 2020 or to be submitted prior that date. We will keep you informed.

Drum Festival Saturday 25th January 2020 Hexham Queen's Hall 1000-2200

There will be performances and workshops throughout the day for all to try a hand at different styles of drumming and the evening Gala Concert will commence with Internationally renowned street drumming troop Spark lighting up the stage They have performed all over the globe with the majority of the performers hailing from the North East so it will be electrifying to have them support the Foundation on home turf. It will also feature Owen Gunnell, Millennial Percussion and The Corp of Army Musicians. There are a limited number of free tickets for the Concert, available now at The Queens Hall box office.

The day will open with local lad Martyn Kaine who since studying under North East Drum Educator Geoff Hutchinson, has gone on to international fame playing with Kyle Eastwood (Clint's son!), and with the band Brotherly, to name a few, with a residency at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. Martyn will run a drum kit workshop and will be available throughout the day for one to one drum clinics with Geoff Hutchinson.

North Easterner Will Lang is a modern British Folk musician, composer and producer. He will lead a workshop and demonstration on the Irish folk drum Bodhran  Will is one of the most versatile musicians on the British Folk scene today and is well known for his collaborations, including Mercury Music Award-winning Nitin Sawhney, The National Youth Choir of Great Britain and Northern Spirit Singers in the BBCs Choir Of The Year.

Mark Bolderson was a former student of the now 'Royal' Birmingham Conservatoire, and they are sending up their percussion ensemble Millennial Percussion. They play a ground-breaking new repertoire alongside classics from composers like Steve Reich, Iannis Xenakis and John Cage. February 2017 saw the ensemble perform the colossal percussion sextet Persephassa by Xenakis with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra percussionists as part of the CBSO Centre Stage series. Other recent Millennial Percussion performances have included the Gymnastics World Cup at Arena Birmingham, performing Ben Wallfisch’s Apex, and BBC Young Dancer Competition 2019 where the ensemble played live on BBC2 TV.
They will run 2 workshops and be joined by one of our countries leading percussionists, Owen Gunnell. Since winning the percussion final of BBC Young Musician in 2000, Owen graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2003 and has enjoyed a varied career as a percussionist. He has appeared as a soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, BBC Philharmonic, Britten Sinfonia, Macedonia Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonia Viva, among others. He is one half of the percussion duo 'O Duo', who have won many prizes and performed and been broadcast on television and radio all over the world.

Following his studies at the Conservatoire Mark Bolderson served as a musician with the Royal Artillery and The British Army are sending up a Corp Of Army Musicians to perform and run a workshop. It will be a great opportunity for youngsters to have a chat about a career in Army music as their recruitment team will be on hand across the day.

There will be samba workshops for beginners and support from Prudhoe Community Band in the foyer for an action packed day of drumming!

December 7th Forever The Beat Of The Drum 2019 

Our 3rd annual fundraising concert will again be held in Hexham's Queens Hall. 

Again hosted by our friend Steffen Peddie, comedian, BBC Radio Newcastle Presenter and star of Hebburn.

We will showcase our 2019 scholarship winners and local talent, with performances from The Tyne Valley Big Band.

Six session drumming course led by North East Drum Educator Geoff Hutchinson. Each session can act as a stand alone workshop if you cannot make the full course.

We are very pleased to offer all those students who attended our Drummers Tool Box course, a full days workshop to consolidate the course. This will be led by Will Haywood Smith while he is over from the US.

Beginner Percussion Ensemble Week 26th-30th August

Steven Moore will be running this course at Yamaha Music School in Whitley Bay. Students will learn various percussion pieces over the week 1400-1600 Monday to Thursday ending with a Friday evening concert at 1830.
